I think #3 is extremely important and something bloggers should keep in mind in the months leading up to a sale. Not all traffic is created equal. Some are buyers, some are clickers, some are merely looking for free information. Obviously anyone negotiating to acquire a property will be interested in the monthly income. They know very well that if they have to make changes to make a profit, they stand to lose the traffic that wasn't buying in the first place.

I have been very surprised at some of the responses I have seen on the forums. Funny how some people think bloggers are running charities and have obligations to the needy. I'm with Carson, their tone reveals their poverty.

My eyes will remain on you so I can see what a successful writing career looks like.

@ChinaMatt - It surprised me too - but I know it's the right decision.

@Franky - On the web you're sort of damned if you do and damned if you don't. I just think people like to complain.

@Carson - Have I ever let the critics keep me from my goals?

@Laura - Thank you, I'm kind of excited too!

@Holly - Thanks! Lots of good luck with your blog.

Congrats on the sale!

I've had a couple of offers on my blog (not too serious) but I don't think I could actually part with it. I can't imagine having to start all over again; it's exactly like you say, it becomes your baby.

I also never thought of an award as being an amenity to sweeten the sale, but that is a great point. I'll have to bookmark this post so if I ever sell, I'll have your pointers.

I think it's terrific that you had the courage to sell your blog and move on.

You're certainly not under any obligation to continue as a free resource for writers forever, and you made a good business move when you had the chance. That's what business is all about.

I'm happy for you and excited about your future endeavors, whatever they may be. Best wishes!

Q: Who is most likely to call someone else a "sellout"?
A: Someone who doesn't have anything of their own worth selling.

Screw the critics.
Damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead!

It was rather harsh to notice the term "sellout" on several sites.

I honestly do wonder how much revenue some of these people have managed to gather via FWJ during the time they have been following FWJ.

I never saw the word "non profit" or "charity" next to your work. Sell out? Hardly. Successful business person is more like it. Congratulations again on achieving what most of us dream about!

I'm not really surprised by the first two in this list. I was surprised that you sold FWJ, but I'm sure you made the right decision.
